TikTok Affiliate Marketing: How It Works and How to Make Money

TikTok affiliate marketing guide — how creators find affiliate programs, choose products, and earn commissions through TikTok Shop and brand partnerships.
Loading the Elevenlabs Text to Speech AudioNative Player...
TL;DR

TikTok affiliate marketing lets Creators earn commissions by recommending products through TikTok Shop, brand affiliate programs, affiliate networks, retailers, or software companies. The best products are ones your audience already cares about and that you can confidently recommend. Focus on useful content like demonstrations, tutorials, reviews, and comparisons, give viewers a clear path to buy, and track clicks, conversions, and commissions to learn what actually drives sales.

If you already recommend products in your TikTok content, affiliate marketing gives you a way to earn from those recommendations. When someone buys through your affiliate link, referral code, or TikTok Shop content, you can earn a commission from the sale.

There are several ways to do this on TikTok, and TikTok Shop is only one of them. You can also join affiliate programs from brands, retailers, networks, and software companies, each with different requirements, commission structures, and sales-tracking methods.

This guide explains how TikTok affiliate marketing works, the different ways to earn, how to find the best products to promote, and what you can do to turn your content into affiliate sales.

Let’s get started.

What Is TikTok Affiliate Marketing?

TikTok affiliate marketing is a way for Creators to earn commissions by promoting another company's products or services through their TikTok content.

When you join an affiliate program, you receive a way to connect the customers you refer to your account. Depending on the program, that could be an affiliate link, referral code, or a product tagged directly in your TikTok Shop content. If someone makes a qualifying purchase through your referral, you earn a commission based on the program's terms.

For example, say you create beauty content and recommend a $30 skincare product with a 10% commission. One qualifying sale would earn you $3. If 100 viewers buy through your referral, you could earn $300 in commissions.

Illustration showing how TikTok affiliate marketing works, with a $30 skincare product earning $3 per qualifying sale and $300 from 100 sales.

How you find products, connect viewers to them, and earn those commissions depends on the affiliate program you use. That gives Creators several ways to approach affiliate marketing on TikTok.

How Creators Can Earn With TikTok Affiliate Marketing

There isn't one set way to do affiliate marketing on TikTok. You can promote products available directly through TikTok, join programs run by individual brands, or use affiliate platforms that give you access to products and services outside the app.

Here are the main options:

1. TikTok Shop Affiliate

TikTok Shop Affiliate lets eligible Creators earn commissions by promoting products from TikTok Shop sellers. You can feature eligible products in shoppable videos and LIVEs, and viewers can open the product listing and complete their purchase without leaving TikTok.

You don't need to buy inventory or process orders yourself. The seller handles fulfillment, shipping, returns, refunds, and customer service while setting the product price and affiliate commission.

TikTok Shop also gives Creators tools for finding products and working with sellers. We'll look more closely at eligibility and how those features work later in this guide.

2. Brand Affiliate Programs

Some brands run their own affiliate programs, allowing Creators to earn commissions for sending customers directly to them. Once approved, you'll typically receive a unique affiliate link or referral code that connects qualifying purchases to your account.

This route can be a natural fit when you already feature or use a particular brand in your content. Check the company's website for an Affiliate, Partners, or Creators page to see whether it runs a program. Some brands manage their programs directly, while others use third-party affiliate platforms.

Before joining, look beyond the advertised commission rate. Check the attribution window, payout schedule, minimum payout, eligibility requirements, and any restrictions on how you can promote the products. These terms affect how you can use the program and what you can realistically earn from it.

3. Affiliate Networks

Affiliate networks bring programs from multiple businesses together on one platform. Instead of finding and managing every opportunity separately, you can use a network to discover programs, apply to advertisers, generate tracking links, and monitor commissions.

Awin, for example, connects Creators with advertisers across categories such as fashion, beauty, technology, and travel.

Awin affiliate marketing platform website.

Joining a network doesn't automatically give you access to every advertiser on it. Individual businesses can still approve Creators separately and set their own commission rates, attribution windows, eligibility requirements, and promotional rules.

Once you're approved for a program, you can generate its affiliate links through the network and track the clicks, qualifying purchases, and commissions they generate.

4. Amazon Associates

Amazon Associates lets approved Creators earn commissions by referring customers to eligible products sold on Amazon.

Once approved, you can create affiliate links for eligible products you feature in your TikTok content. When someone follows your link and makes a qualifying purchase, Amazon can attribute the sale to your account.

For most products, Amazon's standard referral window lasts 24 hours after someone clicks your link. If the customer adds an eligible product to their cart during that period, you may still earn a commission when they complete the purchase, subject to Amazon's program terms.

Your commission also isn't necessarily limited to the product you originally linked. Other eligible products the customer adds to their cart after following your link may qualify.

Commission rates vary by product category, so check the applicable rate and program terms before deciding what to promote. You'll also need a clear way to direct interested TikTok viewers to your Amazon affiliate links.

5. Software and Digital Product Affiliate Programs

Software companies, apps, and other digital businesses can also pay Creators for referring new customers.

The earning structure varies by program. Some pay a percentage of each purchase, others offer a fixed amount for each qualifying customer, and subscription products may offer recurring commissions.

Adobe is one example. Its affiliate program covers products such as Creative Cloud, with commission structures that vary depending on the product or plan.

For eligible monthly subscriptions, affiliates can earn 85% of the first month's subscription price, with a 30-day attribution window.

Creators can work products like these into content where they're genuinely useful, such as tutorials, workflows, and demonstrations.

Whichever route you choose, the program determines what you can promote, how referrals are tracked, and how you get paid. From there, you need to understand its requirements and decide which products are worth putting in front of your audience.

TikTok Shop Affiliate Requirements and Eligibility

TikTok Shop Affiliate isn't available to every Creator or in every market. TikTok Shop is currently available in:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Brazil
  • France
  • Indonesia
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • Mexico
  • Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam

Creator requirements vary by country, including rules around age, follower count, verification, and access to affiliate features. For this guide, we'll focus on the requirements for Affiliate Creators in the US.

TikTok Shop Affiliate Requirements in the US

To join TikTok Shop Affiliate in the US, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be based in the United States
  • Have at least 1,000 followers
  • Pass TikTok Shop's identity verification
  • Follow TikTok Shop policies, TikTok Community Guidelines, and the Creator Code of Conduct
  • Have no previous record of TikTok Shop revoking your ecommerce permissions
  • Pass TikTok Shop's security and compliance checks

TikTok also excludes Government, Politician, and Political Party Accounts from eligibility.

During onboarding, you may need to provide personal information and a valid government-issued ID. You must complete verification before you can promote products from the Product Marketplace, earn commissions, or withdraw your earnings.

If you qualify with fewer than 5,000 followers, you'll also enter TikTok's Affiliate Creator Pilot Program, which temporarily limits some TikTok Shop affiliate features.

How the TikTok Shop Creator Pilot Program Works

Creators who join TikTok Shop Affiliate with fewer than 5,000 followers are automatically placed in the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program for at least 30 days. You can still promote products and earn commissions during this period, but some features are restricted.

For standard Pilot Creators, those restrictions include:

  • Up to three shoppable product videos per day
  • Up to three shoppable LIVEs per week
  • No access to TikTok Shop campaigns
  • Product Marketplace access limited to products from shops with a Shop Performance Score of at least 95%

These restrictions apply only to shoppable content. You can continue publishing regular TikTok videos and hosting non-shoppable LIVEs without the Pilot Program's posting limits.

To graduate from the Pilot Program, you need at least 5,000 followers and must have spent at least 30 days in the program. Meeting only one of those requirements isn't enough.

Once you meet both, you can move beyond the Pilot Program's restrictions and access the broader set of TikTok Shop affiliate features available to eligible Creators.

How Does TikTok Shop Affiliate Work?

Once you're eligible for TikTok Shop Affiliate, you can use its Creator tools to find products, feature them in your content, and earn commissions when your recommendations lead to qualifying sales.

Here's how the process works:

1. Find Products in the Product Marketplace

The Product Marketplace is where you can browse TikTok Shop products that sellers have made available for affiliate promotion.

Listings can include information such as the product's price, commission rate, sales data, and seller details. Look at these signals together when evaluating an opportunity rather than choosing a product based on its commission rate alone.

Sellers can also send Collab Invites asking you to promote specific products. An invitation gives you another option to consider, not necessarily one you should accept. Check the product, seller, commission, and fit with your audience before deciding whether it's worth featuring.

2. Add Products to Your Showcase

Your Showcase is a collection of products you promote on your TikTok profile. It gives viewers a place to browse your recommendations without having to find the original video where you featured a product.

You can add products you already promote or plan to feature, then remove them when they're no longer relevant.

As your Showcase grows, keep it organized around what your audience is likely to look for. Someone arriving from one of your videos should be able to find the relevant product without sorting through unrelated recommendations.

3. Promote Products in Shoppable Videos

You can attach eligible products directly to TikTok videos so viewers can open the listing and purchase through TikTok Shop.

The product should still have a useful role in the video. You might demonstrate how it works, show a specific use case, compare it with another option, or answer a question someone might have before buying.

Adding the product link makes the path to purchase easier, but your content still needs to give viewers a reason to consider the product in the first place.

4. Promote Products Through TikTok LIVE

TikTok LIVE gives you another way to feature affiliate products while viewers watch, ask questions, and shop.

The longer format can be useful for products that need more explanation. You can demonstrate how something works and cover details such as size, fit, setup, or features while responding to questions in real time.

Pay attention to the questions viewers ask during your LIVE. Recurring questions can show you what potential buyers still want to know and give you ideas for future content about the product.

5. Request Product Samples

Some TikTok Shop sellers offer samples so Creators can try products before creating content about them. You can find sample opportunities through the Product Marketplace or receive them through Collab Invites, although availability and seller approval may apply.

If you receive a sample, check the associated posting requirements. TikTok generally requires Creators to publish promotional content within 14 days of receiving an eligible sample, which may involve a shoppable video or LIVE featuring the product.

Receiving a free sample doesn't automatically make the content a paid sponsorship. Unless you have a separate agreement with the seller, your earnings come from qualifying affiliate sales.

6. Earn Commissions From Qualifying Sales

TikTok Shop sellers set the commission rates for their affiliate products, so your earnings will vary by offer.

For example, a $40 product with a 10% commission would pay $4 per qualifying sale. Generate 50 qualifying sales, and that would be $200 before any adjustments.

A sale doesn't necessarily mean the commission is final. Returns, refunds, cancellations, and TikTok Shop's commission rules can affect whether you receive the commission and how much you ultimately earn.

That makes the commission rate only one part of evaluating an offer. The product's price, the seller behind it, and how likely your audience is to buy all affect whether it is worth promoting.

How to Start Affiliate Marketing on TikTok

Once you've decided which type of affiliate marketing fits your content, you can start putting the pieces together. You don't need dozens of products or several affiliate programs to begin. Start with a small number of relevant offers and learn what your audience responds to.

1. Choose Your Affiliate Route

Start with the type of program that makes sense for what you want to promote.

If eligible products are available through TikTok Shop, you can use its affiliate tools to keep product discovery and purchasing within TikTok. If you already use products from particular brands, check whether they have direct affiliate programs. Affiliate networks, retailers such as Amazon, and software companies can give you additional options.

You can use more than one route over time. For now, choose one that gives you access to products that fit naturally with your content.

2. Join the Affiliate Program

Once you've found a suitable program, check its requirements and terms before applying.

Look at the commission structure, attribution window, payout terms, eligibility requirements, and promotional rules. You should know what qualifies for a commission, how long referrals can be attributed to you, and how you'll eventually receive your earnings.

If you're approved, complete any required account setup and get access to the tracking links, referral codes, or affiliate tools you'll need to start promoting products.

3. Choose Your First Products to Promote

Start with products or services that connect naturally to the topics your audience already comes to you for.

A fitness Creator might consider workout equipment, clothing, or training apps. A photographer could look at cameras, accessories, or editing software. Your comments can also reveal opportunities, particularly when viewers regularly ask what you use or where they can find something you've featured.

Keep your initial selection small. It's easier to learn what generates interest and sales when you're testing a few relevant products rather than filling your content with unrelated offers.

We'll cover how to evaluate affiliate products more closely later in this guide.

4. Give Viewers a Clear Way to Buy

Before publishing affiliate content, decide how interested viewers will reach the product.

With TikTok Shop, you can attach eligible products directly to shoppable content. External programs may give you an affiliate link or referral code instead, which means you'll need an accessible place to direct viewers.

Whatever method you use, someone who becomes interested after watching your content shouldn't have to search for the product themselves.

5. Publish Your First Affiliate Content and Track the Results

Create content that gives viewers useful information about the product rather than simply telling them to buy it. You might demonstrate how it works, include it in a tutorial, review your experience, or compare it with another option.

Then look beyond views to see what happens after people watch. Depending on the program, you may be able to track product clicks, orders, conversions, and commissions.

Those early results give you a starting point. You can use them to decide which products deserve more content, which approaches are worth testing again, and which offers aren't connecting with your audience.

How to Share Affiliate Links on TikTok

With external affiliate programs, viewers usually need to leave TikTok to complete their purchase. That makes it important to give interested viewers a clear path from your content to the product you're recommending.

The options available will depend on your TikTok account and how the affiliate program tracks referrals.

1. Add Affiliate Links to Your TikTok Bio

Your TikTok bio can give interested viewers a direct route to an affiliate offer.

If your account has access to a clickable website link, you can use it to send people to the product or another page where they can find your recommendations. In your content, make it clear that the link is available from your profile so viewers know where to go next.

A direct bio link works particularly well when you regularly promote the same product or currently have one main offer. If you recommend several products, however, constantly replacing the link can become difficult to manage.

2. Use a Link-in-Bio Page

A link-in-bio gives you one place to organize multiple affiliate links.

Instead of changing your TikTok profile link whenever you feature a different product, you can create separate links for the products, tools, and resources you regularly recommend. Clear labels can also help someone arriving from an older video find the product they were looking for.

Keep the page focused. If viewers have to search through dozens of unrelated links to find the product you mentioned, you add another step between their interest and the purchase.

3. Share Referral or Discount Codes

Some affiliate programs give Creators a unique referral or discount code instead of, or alongside, an affiliate link.

You can mention the code in your video, display it on screen, or include it in the caption where appropriate. This gives viewers another way to act on your recommendation when they can't click directly from the content they're watching.

Check how the program attributes code-based purchases before relying on this method. Some programs track sales through the code itself, while others may still require the customer to use your affiliate link.

4. Tag Products With TikTok Shop

If you're a TikTok Shop Affiliate Creator, you can connect eligible products directly to shoppable videos and LIVEs instead of sending viewers to an external affiliate link.

When creating your content, select the product you want to promote from your Showcase or the available TikTok Shop affiliate products and attach it to the content. Viewers can then tap the product link to see details, check the price, and complete their purchase within TikTok.

TikTok uses the attached product to attribute qualifying sales to your affiliate account. If someone buys through your content and the purchase qualifies, you earn the commission set for that product.

Because the buying path stays within TikTok, you don't need to direct viewers to your profile or an external page before they can see the offer.

5. Make the Next Step Clear in Your Content

Whichever method you use, make it easy for interested viewers to know where to find the product.

If the affiliate link is in your bio, tell them where to find it. If you're using a referral code, make it easy to read and remember. If you've tagged a TikTok Shop product, direct viewers to the attached product rather than making them search for it.

Keep the call to action relevant to the content. Someone watching a detailed review or comparison may be ready to check the product, while someone seeing it briefly in a tutorial may simply want an easy way to find it later.

How to Choose Products for TikTok Affiliate Marketing

A product can fit your niche and still be a poor affiliate choice. Before creating content around it, consider whether your audience is likely to buy it, whether you can confidently recommend it, what you could realistically earn, and how much useful content you can create around it.

1. Start With Your Audience

Look at what your audience already comes to you for. The products they ask about, the problems they want to solve, and the topics they consistently engage with can point you toward relevant affiliate offers.

Comments can be particularly useful here. If viewers regularly ask what camera you use, where you bought an item, or which tool helped you achieve a particular result, you already have some indication that they're interested in the product.

Pay attention to signs of buying intent too. Plenty of views on a camera video may show interest in the topic, but repeated questions about price, accessories, or where to buy the camera suggest that some viewers may be considering a purchase.

2. Check the Product and Seller

A good commission won't matter much if the product disappoints the people who buy it.

For physical products, check customer ratings and reviews, paying particular attention to recurring complaints about:

  • Quality and durability
  • Sizing or fit
  • Whether the product matches its description
  • Shipping and packaging
  • Ease of use
  • Returns or customer service

Then look at who is selling it. On TikTok Shop, consider the seller's track record alongside the product's sales and reviews. For external programs, research the brand or retailer and check for recurring issues with fulfillment, returns, or customer support.

You may not handle the order yourself, but your audience experiences the purchase as something you recommended. Repeated problems with the product or seller can make viewers less likely to trust your future recommendations.

3. Look Beyond the Commission Percentage

A higher commission rate doesn't necessarily mean a better earning opportunity. Consider the product's price, what you earn per sale, and how likely your audience is to buy it.

For example, a $15 product at a 20% commission pays $3 per sale, while a $60 product at 10% pays $6. The second offer pays twice as much per sale, but its higher price could also make it harder to convert.

Other program terms can affect what you ultimately earn:

  • Attribution window: How long after your referral a purchase can be credited to you
  • Returns and cancellations: Whether commissions can be reduced or reversed
  • Payment terms: When commissions are paid and whether there's a minimum payout
  • Recurring commissions: Whether you continue earning when a referred customer keeps paying for a subscription

Consider these factors together rather than comparing affiliate offers by commission percentage alone.

4. Consider the Content Potential

Look for products that give you more than one useful reason to talk about them.

A kitchen tool could appear in demonstrations and recipe tutorials. Software might support walkthroughs, tutorials, and comparisons, while fashion products can appear in styling content or comparisons between different options.

Having several angles gives you room to test how your audience responds without repeating the same recommendation. If a product performs well, you can keep creating useful content around it rather than having to find a new affiliate offer after every video.

How to Create TikTok Affiliate Content That Drives Sales

Choosing the right product gives you something relevant to promote. Your content still needs to help viewers understand the product and decide whether it makes sense for them.

Different formats can answer different questions someone might have before buying.

1. Product Demonstrations

Some products make more sense once people see them in action. A demonstration can show how a kitchen gadget works, how much a portable charger can power, or how a piece of equipment performs in a particular setup.

Focus on the details someone would want to know before buying. If a product claims to solve a specific problem, show how it handles that problem rather than repeating claims from its listing.

Beauty brand Love & Pebble used this approach with its Beauty Pops, working with TikTok Shop affiliates to create videos featuring the product.

Those Creator videos helped drive sales, and the brand later turned successful affiliate content into TikTok Shop ads, eventually selling out its inventory twice.

2. Tutorials

Tutorials work well when a product helps your audience accomplish something they already want to do.

A photography Creator, for example, could show how they use an editing tool to achieve a particular effect. The viewer gets a useful lesson while seeing how the product fits into the process.

One product can also support several tutorials. An editing tool might appear in videos about color correction, retouching, or creating a particular visual style. Each video gives viewers another use case without repeating the same recommendation.

3. Reviews

Reviews can help viewers who already know about a product but need more information before deciding whether to buy it.

Share what worked well, what could be better, how easy the product was to use, and who you think would get the most value from it.

You don't need to make every product sound perfect. A genuine limitation can be useful when someone is weighing their options because it helps them decide whether that trade-off matters for how they plan to use the product.

4. Product Comparisons

Comparisons work well when viewers have narrowed down their options but aren't sure which product to choose.

Instead of running through every feature, focus on differences that could affect the buying decision, such as price, size, durability, ease of use, performance, or who each option suits best.

You can also compare different versions or price points from the same brand when the differences aren't immediately obvious. By the end, viewers should have a clearer idea of which option better fits their needs.

5. Before-and-After Content

For products that produce a visible result, showing the starting point and outcome can help viewers understand what the product can do.

This format can work for beauty, home organization, cleaning, design, and other products where the result is part of the appeal.

Give viewers enough context to understand what produced the change, including how the product was used where relevant. Keep the comparison realistic rather than exaggerating the result someone should expect.

6. Work Products Into Your Existing Content

An affiliate product doesn't always need to be the main subject of the video.

A travel Creator could mention products while packing for a trip. A gaming Creator might feature equipment that's already part of their setup, while an artist could mention the supplies or software they're using during a tutorial.

This gives viewers context for how the product fits into what you're already doing. It also gives you more opportunities to feature products you genuinely use without creating a dedicated review or promotional video every time.

Whatever format you choose, think about what someone still needs to know before considering the product. Someone discovering it for the first time may need to see how it works, while someone comparing their options may care more about the differences that could affect their decision.

Affiliate disclosure: If you can earn a commission when someone buys a product you recommend, make that relationship clear to your audience. TikTok may require you to use its content disclosure setting, which can label commercial content as Paid partnership or Promotional content. Keep your disclosure easy to notice and understand rather than burying it among hashtags or using vague wording. For external affiliate programs, check their disclosure requirements as well, along with any advertising requirements that apply in your market.

Turn Affiliate Insights Into Products of Your Own

Affiliate marketing gives you a way to earn from products you recommend without creating or fulfilling them yourself. Along the way, the products people click on and buy can also tell you something useful about what your audience is willing to spend money on.

You can use those insights when deciding what to create yourself. If your audience consistently buys products around a particular interest or problem, for example, there may be room for merch, digital products, or other offers built around your own brand.

With Fourthwall, you can create a branded storefront for physical and digital products, offer memberships, and sell directly to your audience alongside the affiliate recommendations that already fit your content.

Affiliate marketing doesn't have to replace your own products, or vice versa. They can work together as different ways to monetize the audience and trust you've built.

FAQ

TikTok Shop Affiliate in the US requires at least 1,000 followers, while external affiliate programs (Amazon Associates, brand programs, affiliate networks) set their own eligibility rules and often have no minimum follower count. Creators below 1,000 followers can still earn TikTok affiliate income through external programs by using bio links or link-in-bio pages instead of TikTok Shop's in-app product tools.

TikTok affiliate marketing is worth it in 2026 for creators whose content already touches recommendable products in beauty, wellness, tech, home, and fashion, where TikTok Shop conversion rates run well above traditional affiliate channels. TikTok Shop commission rates typically fall between 5% and 20%, and the For You feed can put a single shoppable video in front of hundreds of thousands of high-intent shoppers without a follower gate on views. It is less worth the effort in countries where TikTok Shop is not available.

TikTok affiliate marketers commonly earn $50 to $5,000 per month on TikTok Shop, with commissions driven more by product fit and viewer purchase intent than by follower count or total views. A single viral shoppable video promoting a $30 product at 15% commission can generate about $450 per 100 sales, while consistent mid-tier creators promoting several products across weekly content often build $1,000 to $3,000 in monthly income. Beauty, home, and wellness typically outperform lifestyle and general-interest content.

The strongest niches for TikTok affiliate marketing are beauty, skincare, wellness, kitchen and home gadgets, fitness accessories, tech accessories, and fashion, because these categories combine impulse-purchase price points with visual demonstrations that work well in short-form video. TikTok Shop's top-earning US categories have skewed toward beauty and personal care since launch. Broader categories like books, digital tools, and software can also work through external programs like Amazon Associates, though they usually convert more slowly because the buying decision happens off-platform.

A TikTok Shop Affiliate promotes other sellers' products in exchange for a commission on qualifying sales, while a TikTok Shop seller owns the inventory, sets prices, handles fulfillment and returns, and pays commissions to affiliates. Affiliates take no inventory risk and can start earning by featuring existing products from the Product Marketplace, but they receive only a share of each sale. Sellers keep the full margin at the cost of managing sourcing, shipping, and customer service. Many creators do both.
