Snazzy Seagull generated more sales in one weekend than she ever did in a month. How? She created a personalized online shop using Fourthwall and promoted it to her loyal audience.

Snazzy Seagull is a creator specializing in the design of uniquely humorous t-shirts. Incorporating inspiration from a mix of internet memes, "dad jokes," and various elements of internet culture, Snazzy Seagull has successfully built an incredible following across socials because of her funny videos that advertise her shirts. This has led her to become a featured RedBubble Artist.

As her social media following continues to grow, she began looking for ways to get better margins on her merchandise and more brand ownership separate from Redbubble. Through strategic use of social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels, Snazzy Seagull has achieved a remarkable level of engagement and commercial success.

Recently, she started promoting products on her Fourthwall shop, which led to a record sales weekend with this TikTok:

Fourthwall’s Q&A with Snazzy Seagull

Snazzy Seagull recently started using Fourthwall to sell her products, while continuing to run her Redbubble. We had the pleasure of chatting with her to hear a little bit more about her success.

How did you come up with your designs?

I take lots of inspiration from internet culture, memes, and "dad jokes." I have a habit of writing down any and every idea I see or come up with, even if it's not my favorite. I find that writing down ideas on a regular basis has helped "train my brain" to see the puns or memeable situations in everyday life. I also love to browse the internet for ideas-- I'll save anything from an awkward 80s photoshoot to a weird-looking cat meme as inspiration.

How did you decide to use Fourthwall?

I decided to join Fourthwall since I wanted to expand and gain more control over my online shop. Being able to control pricing, sales, and profit margins was a big step forward for both myself and my business. Additionally, Fourthwall appealed to me because I was able to build my website and seamlessly integrate my merchandise without monthly subscriptions or third-party apps.

How do you promote so well?

My main strategy is daily posts on TikTok and Instagram Reels. While not every video will be a big hit, it keeps my audience engaged while I work on my next product. I aim to make my videos simple, yet fun and entertaining--not just an advertisement. The combination of appealing content and an engaged audience is incredibly powerful- one video with 10 Million views generated more sales in one weekend than I had ever received in a month!

What are your future plans for promotion?

I plan to continue my frequent posts on social media- especially on TikTok. While views may fluctuate with time, I've learned that dedication to frequent posting and quality content definitely pays off! Additionally, I plan to continue hosting sales and giveaways, and try out new topics and forms of promotional content.

Advice for creators

1. On social media, be a content creator first, and a business second. People are on social platforms to be entertained by people like them! Be authentic, infuse your content with your personality, and have fun! I find that good promotional content for social media can still stand on its own, even if the item in the video isn't for sale.

2. Take risks! My designs first gained popularity before I even opened an online shop - I just posted a video making a design because I thought it was funny, and suddenly, people wanted to buy it! It never hurts to do something a little different- oftentimes it's exactly what somebody is looking for.

Snazzy Seagull is using both Redbubble and Fourthwall to get the best of both worlds. Redbubble’s marketplace format makes it a good choice for catching the eye of new customers who might just be scrolling through or searching for specific products. It's an easy way to get your stuff out there. But this comes at the cost of your margins. Many products on Redbubble cost $10 more than an equivalent product on another platform like Fourthwall.

When it comes to Fourthwall, that's where you can really connect with your loyal supporters and have a lot more control over your shop—from setting your own prices to running sales. Fourthwall is also a great option for offering higher quality products and better profit margins.

The good news? You don't have to choose—you can use both platforms to reach different kinds of customers and grow your business. Plus, both platforms handle the hard parts of business - manufacturing, fulfillment, customer service, and taxes. Just like Snazzy Seagull, you can mix and match to find what works best for you.
